Description

  • USPSA Legal, NOT LEGAL FOR ISPC
  • Extends Magazine for Improved Seating
  • Grooved Sides to Aid in Magazine Removal
  • CNC Machined from Aircraft Aluminum
  • Use With or Without Standard 1911 Magwells

DP 1911 Basepads are designed with maximum length for positive seating in competition or tactical environments. The unique wedge shape fits IPDA and USPSA  boxes (you should always check your pistol in the appropriate box as guns vary dimensionally). There are deep finger grooves on the sides to assist in rapid mag removal if needed. We offer basepads for most popular 1911 magazines and all are CNC machined from aircraft aluminum to Dawson Precision tolerances for a perfect fit and lasting durability. With the 1911 single stack making a strong comeback it made sense for Dave Dawson to make a basepad that increased the consistency of a fast, smooth, positive seating reload that accommodates not only the bigger, deeper magwells on the market, like the DP 1911 Ice Magwell, but all other types such as the Smith and Alexander Magwell.
DP Standard basepads are extended length factory replacements while DP No Gap basepads are designed for the DP 1911 Ice Magwell with No Gap Insert only.

Either way you go it improves positive mag seating.

Had a problem with front tab of the plastic magazine base pad on my Dan Wesson Specialist magazine (made by Metalform) occasionally flexing and over-riding the front strap when the magazine is slammed home on an open slide during competition. This causes the magazine to be over-inserted in the gun preventing the slide from closing. Because of the aggressive 25 lpi front strap checkering, the plastic tab gets jammed on the checkering making it very difficult to remove the magazine from the mag well. Needless to say, this completely kills your stage run when the gun comes to a screeching halt. There's a Hickok YouTube video showing this happening to him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cctvMIf4CCY&feature=youtu.be&t=848
The Dawson aluminum base plates fit the DW magazines perfectly and completely eliminate the possibility of an over-ride. Dawson should aggressively pursue Dan Wesson to make these base pads standard on their mags. Great product that solved the problem completely.
