Desert Eagle 1911G Front Sight Replacement
Dawson has always been known to produce high quality sights and this one is no exception. I replaced the original black steel front sight that came with the gun with the .140H x .125W fiber optic sight. I based it primarily on the height, which is equal to the original sight since the rear sight is fixed. The Dawson FO sight required very little fitting taking very little material from the bottom using a 220 grit sandpaper laid flat on a sheet of glass. Did three figure 8 strokes, rotate 90 deg and repeated 4 times. This resulted in a somewhat-still tight fit on the gun so I repeated the figure 8 strokes by another set. Pressure applied was light just enough to ensure that the sight stays flat on the paper during the figure 8 strokes. The second set gave me a tight fit in the dovetail cut but did not shave any metal so I deemed it to be sufficient.
I waited until after I used my DE 1911G in a USPSA match before doing the review. One thing that stood out is how quickly I can find the FO front sight and line it up with the target. It was definitely a great improvement on the original sight for fast target acquisition and clarity especially for a senior like myself. I highly recommend this sight to all DE1911G owners.
