I picked up 2 of the Dawson Precision Echo +4 round base plate extensions for my G17 Mec-Gar 18rd mags, running them in a Shadow Systems XR920. First off, installation is stupid simple. You only need a punch to remove the factory Mec-Gar base plate, and after that the extension itself installs completely tool-less. Took maybe a couple minutes per mag. The included spring is very well balanced. It has enough pressure to reliably load all 22 rounds without issue, but it’s not so stiff that it tears up your fingers while loading—which is something a lot of extensions get wrong. Fitment is excellent. It works perfectly with the Shadow Systems factory magwell, and visually it looks awesome. The serrations actually match the slide serrations really well, so it doesn’t look like an afterthought or cheap add-on. Price-wise, this was the best deal I could find for a mag extension in this category, which made it an easy choice. I’ve only put one full mag through it so far, but I had zero failures to feed and everything ran smoothly. Overall, very impressed so far. If reliability holds up over more rounds, I’ll definitely be picking up more of these.
