Description
Is there really a difference with Dawson Precision® sights? You bet there is!
While other sights give off a hazy glow making it difficult to focus, Dawson Precision® sights offer you the sharpest picture. We counterbore the blade so the optic is recessed. This subtle difference focuses the light in the sight making it not only brighter, but clearer. A fully cradled optic provides a longer optic lifespan.

I needed a fiber optic sight for a Rock Island Armory 1911. Bought a cheaper one off Ebay. It was advertised as fitting that gun but it didn't. The fiber optic wasn't even installed in the sight. Very low quality stuff. Sent that one back and bought the Dawson. It installed easily and was an overall superior product. Learned my lesson, next time I need a sight, I know where to go.
When I purchase a new range or competition gun, I always buy Dawson fibers with it. For a full size RIA 1911, I purchased the 180x100 and they seem to be perfect. I have never found a better fiber optic. My particular sight slid in easily. I always use green loctite to help hold the sight in place. I highly recommend that you do the same. -1 star for not including loctite even though the instructions call for it. In the past, I received a small tube.
I received the sight 2 days ago--usps shipping was slow but sure over a weekend and July 4th-8 days. The blued finish is perfect, very black in color and seems well done and easy to touch up. I installed the sight on my RIA last night. Getting the factory sight off was much more difficult than fitting the new one! I suggest viewing Dave's front sight install video a couple of times before proceeding. I used the supplied aluminum punch to drift in the sight after fitting it properly. Warning-- do not attempt to install without proper fitting to your pistol's dovetail. These sights are machined to max dimensions and must be fitted to even start into the dovetail. I could see how someone using a sight pusher improperly could break the sight or, even worse, damage the slide dovetail. The thin post is perfect for use with the stock adjustable rear sight on my RIA. The red dot is BRIGHT and stands out more than other FOs I have. I'll give this one a try but will probably switch to the green FO rod because my eyes seem to pick it up better. Buy it!
I was initially directed to the wrong category (Dawson Novak Cut)for the Rock Islands. That installation didn't go so well. I decided to move that sight to another gun and it's fine there. I liked the quality of the sight and the visibility of the fiber optic. I did find the Rock Island-specific category and ordered another one. Getting that first sight to fit took quite a bit of work. I was prepared to invest some time in this new one when it arrived. I got it, and about 5 minutes later it was on the gun. The following day I took it to the range. Before I could test it, a retired Marine started admiring the gun. I offered to let him fire it....sights were dead on! Very easy to install and center...when you have the right sight. I'm planning to order several more for Sigs and Glocks in the near future. Excellent quality.
Very nice, well made sight, minimal fitting, and very bright.
A little fragile. Have broken two now. Knocked the front off the sight. But still the best I have found.
I purchased both the front and rear fiber optic sights for my Rock Island 9mm 1911. Provided instructions were clear and accurate, sight removal and installation went without a hitch. Thanks, Dawson Precision! John Fleisher
I ordered both the front and rear Fiber Optic sights for a Rock Island Armory 1911. Watched the video's that Dawson has and went to work. Rear sight needed very little filing and the Front sight needed a touch more. Got them installed and couldn't be happier. Much better than the stock sights by far. Great Product and Great customer Service. I like the fact that they send extra fiber optic pipes and an aluminum installation punch with each sight.
